The Wild Horses of Camden Town

A few weeks ago I was over at the Proud Galleries in Camden Town's Stables Market for the Rev78 gig and thought I should pay a return visit during the daylight so that I can show you what makes the market really special. It's a good place to visit, particularly if you can never decide what particular type of ethnic food you're in the mood for  - the stalls here serve everything. It's also a good spot for unusual and retro clothing, jewellery and the like.

What I really like about it though is the horses - the absolutely enormous number of horses! Not real ones mind you - Camden only ever sees the real thing these days when the Household Cavalry come through for their early morning trots - but a dizzying array of statues, busts and reliefs that can be found all around the market...

Great to see a positive piece about the revamped Stables. The kneejerk reaction from many people is 'ug, commercialism's ruined Camden', but I rather like what they've done with it. Maybe just a few too many horses, though ;-)

You're probably not wrong - there are so many you almost fall over them. And the fact that most are near life-size doesn't help - I think they're rather fun though. They certainly add to the atmosphere :)
