The Straw Fox @ The Southbank Centre's 60th Anniversary Celebrations

Head over to the Southbank Centre and you'll find, perched on one side of the complex, a 30 foot or so high straw fox who has miraculously appeared, towering over one of the buildings!

This rather strange creature has been erected to mark the beginning of a celebration of the 60th Anniversary of 1951's 'Festival of Britain', one shining remnant of which is the Royal Festival Hall which graces the site to this day. Amongst the festivities that will be taking place at the complex over the next few months is the annual Meltdown, this year curated by Ray Davies, a new show from Tracey Emin at the Hayward Gallery, amd of course Udderbelly, the rather weird upturned purple cow tent which will be hosting a whole series of 'fringe' events throughout the summer.

In addition to the fox you'll also find some other new art installations around the site, amongst them the Lion and the Unicorn by Gitta Gschwendtner, which commemorates the original 'Lion and Unicorn' pavilion at the original Festival of Britain but  which adds some 21st century meaning with poetry by young refugees who have found a new home in London in more recent times...
