What is it with the BBC at the moment? I try to spend an evening listening to music and browsing the ‘net and there are good TV programmes all over the place. On top of ‘Apparitions’ and ‘Spooks’ I’m going to have to add the new series, ‘Survivors‘ which started on BBC1 tonight.
This is a retelling of the TV series from the late ’70s of the same name, made by Terry Nation, which followed a group of survivors of a plague (this time its a flu pandemic) that decimates most of the population. The acting is superb for the most part – you’ll see what I mean – and the story itself is compelling, even though it is very dark and depressing, what with the dead bodies of peoples’ loved ones all over the place and everything :\
So another programme to add to my weekly list. If you ‘enjoy’ post-apocalyptic fiction you’ll probably get something out of this. If they keep the story close to the original, its really going to go places! It’s a shame that they didn’t choose to remake Blakes 7, another one of Terry Nation’s creations – perhaps thats on the drawing board too…
Of course you can catch it on BBC’s iPlayer if you missed it tonight, and in fact from next week you’ll also be able to watch BBC1 to BBC4 live streaming over the ‘net too – isn’t the internet a wonderful place!
