The City Sculpture Park

During lunchtime this week I headed over into the City to have a look at the group of sculptures that were erected earlier in the year as part of the City of London Festival. For people familiar with public works in London you'll easily recognise the creators of two of the pieces, as there's a new installation from Anish Kapoor which uses his regular material of reflective surfaces but this time in a concave shape, 'Sky Mirror', and which sits in an open space at the bottom of St Mary Axe.

Just up the street is an animated neon creation from Julian Ope (you can see a much larger example of his work in the new Regents Place development over in Bloomsbury by the way) called '3 Men Walking' which depicts, as you might expect, three stick men walking... There's also a striking angular bright blue piece, 'Garden Pouf', by Franz West. If you want to go and check them out for yourself just find the corner of Leadenhall St and St Mary Axe and walk north from there and you should see them all.

Impressive city sculptures.

I don't dislike them but they're represent a rather odd combination of artists, and the fact that they're strung out around a building site doesn't help either. I do like Julian Ope's work though - it's rather fun :)
