London’s Most Colourful Pop-Up – Greenwich’s Movement Cafe

Alight at Greenwich National Rail station or its equivalent DLR stop and you’ll find yourself next to a large new housing development that’s currently under construction. A common site in London’s suburbs you might think, but head away from the station towards the main road and you’ll discover some public art work on the hoardings and a little further on, the Movement Cafe.

Definitely the most colourful pop-up eatery and performance space to appear in London to date, Movement was designed by artist Morag Myerscough and opened at the beginning of the London 2012 Olympic Games, greeting visitors who were heading over to Greenwich Park for the equestrian events. It’s still standing today, although it’s future is uncertain given that the developers are almost ready to develop the parcel of land that the Movement Cafe sits on, which is set to become a hotel. That hasn’t stopped them from continuing to put on events however – tonight (14 May) is music night, with an acoustic set promised from 6:30pm. They’ve just been granted an alcohol licence too, so if you fancy something stronger than a cappuccino you’re in luck.

If you’re local or just passing by and want to know what’s happening at the Movement Cafe, the best place to look for information is their Facebook page, which is regularly updated. If you’re not sure about where to find it, I’ve marked the venue on this Google map to make it a little clearer.
