Following on from its Arabic series last year, Dash Arts’ Dash Café returns to Rich Mix this Wednesday, 3 March, with an evening of discussion and entertainment focused on the former Soviet Union.
Celebrating the launch of The Last Man In Russia, Oliver Bullough’s new non-fiction work, the evening will feature a conversation between the author and Orlando Figes, one of the leading historians on the Soviet Union (who also happens to be Professor of History at Birkbeck). The talk will centre around the effects that living in a totalitarian state can have on private life, and the social impact on ordinary citizens of the growing wealth gap between the rich and poor of present-day Russia.
Oliver will be reading from his new work, and there will also be a book-signing for keen Russophiles. Live music from the region will round out the evening. Doors open at 7:30pm and the event is entirely free of charge, so you have no excuse not to indulge in at least one glass of vodka while you’re there… Na zda-ró-vye! Pop an email to [email protected] if you want to be sure of a place at the event.
