The Women Of The World Festival (or WOW) will be arriving at the Southbank Centre from 6 to 10 March.
Celebrating the achievements of women, the festival will feature talks and debates as well as performance, film and comedy. Visitors to the festival will also be able to participate in networking events as well as speed-mentoring.
Highlights of WOW 2013 include:
- A talk at 9:30am on Friday 8 March by Stephanie Flanders, the BBC’s Economics Editor on the global financial situation and how it relates to our troubled economy
- The inestimable Julie Walters will be ‘in conversation’ at 4:15pm on Friday 8 March
- Conducted by Marin Alsop, the Orchestra Of The Age Of Enlightenment will entertain the audience at 7pm on Friday 8 March with an eclectic orchestral evening dubbed Queens, Heroines and Ladykillers: Curtain Raisers + High Drama
- Ruby Wax: Out Of Her Mind features a monologue with everyone’s favourite American comedienne about her ongoing struggle with mental illness and her particular coping strategies, at 4:30pm on Saturday 9 March
- Bidisha chairs a talk at 10:30am on Sunday 10 March on Jane Austen, and what her experiences mean for a 21st century audience
- Compered by Rosie Wilby and featuring Danielle Ward and Shazia Mirza, comedy extravaganza What The Frock takes place at 3:30pm on Sunday 10 March
- For the men attending the Women Of The World Festival there are several opportunities to hear from Michael Kemmel (National Organisation for Men Against Sexism – NOMAS) and Michael Kaufman (co-founder of the White Ribbon campaign) in their talk, The Guy’s Guide To Feminism.
