Day three of my London Advent Calendar features Eltham Palace in the London Borough of Greenwich
This fine family home, which I visited in February 2012, was built for the Courtauld family in the 1930s and probably has the finest domestic art deco interior to be found anywhere in the UK – as a consequence it’s main rooms have featured in various period dramas through the years.
Eltham Palace hides a secret however – venture through the well-proportioned rooms with their clean geometries and eventually you’ll find yourself in a grand Tudor hall. This is the remnant of a much larger building which was the childhood home of Henry VIII…
