The London 2012 Athlete Outlines

In several tube, rail and DLR stations across London’s transport network there are outlines of athletes competing in various sports. The ones that you see here were photographed at Woolwich Arsenal and West Ham, and I spotted another transfer affixed to the side of the one of the Newham Council buildings just down the street from the Olympic Park.

For those of us who haven’t ventured inside the Olympic Park yet, apparently they also appear on some of the stadia, posters and merchandising such as t-shirts. I think these pictograms  are quite dynamic and interesting – it’s a shame that they’re not a stronger feature of the overall Olympic design. I’m sure Someone, the London-based design team who created them, could have made a much better job of the Olympic logo than that nasty angular lump we have to look at every day for the next few weeks. There are 38 designs in all – have readers spotted any others that they can share?
