Near the river on the eastern side of the Greenwich Peninsula is the small Greenwich Ecology Park. Construction started on the site in 1997, replacing a previous gasworks. The park now contains several small lakes and marshlands which are home to lots of local wildlife, principly migratory birds and ambhibians.
On my visit there wasn’t a lot of bird life as it’s a little too early in the year, but when the lakes are full of wildfowl you can take advantage of two hides which give you a panoramic view of the water. There’s also a meeting room at the entrance to the Park which provides various activities for children. The Greenwich Ecology Park is a peaceful spot that’s well worth a visit if you have an interest in bird-watching.
