London’s Lesbian & Gay Film Festival returns to the British Film Institute (BFI), with films and lectures from 23 March to 1 April 2012.
The only new British film in this year’s line-up is “Stud Life”, an earthy urban romance with a unique angle on London’s black street culture. The first feature-length movie from film-maker Campbell X, “Stud Life” will have its UK debut at the festival, and recounts the story of JJ (T’Nia Miller), a wedding photographer, and the tensions of maintaining her relationships with best friend, Seb (played by Kyle Treslove) and new love Elle (Robyn Kerr). Here’s the trailer:
Other highlights of this year’s Film Festival, which is in its 26th year, include 2011 cinema release ‘Cloudburst’, a tale of an old lesbian couple who are forcibly separated by a meddling granddaughter, and their subsequent attempts to reunite. It stars Hollywood staple Olympia Dukakis as Stella, and her ailing lover Dotty is played by Brenda Fricker.
There’s also a glam rock night which will follow a documentary about outrageous 70s rock singer Jobriath, a dance demonstration from gay and lesbian ballroom dance troupe the Pink Dancers, and a panel discussion about the future of representation for the transgender community.
You can book tickets for all of the screenings and events at the 26th BFI Lesbian & Gay Film Festival at the BFI website here. I’d suggest getting in their quickly – tickets for films being shown at the festival usually go like hotcakes.
