Senate House Gets The Virgin Treatment

Last night I was over at Senate House, one of the iconic buildings on the University College London campus just off Tottenham Court Road, to watch a video celebrating the launch of the new Virgin Money banks, which will shortly be appearing around the country as a result of Sir Richard Branson’s company acquiring the assets of the ailing Northern Rock.

I’m sure that you’ll have your own views on the emergence of this new player onto the high street but I want to focus on the projection itself, which transformed the front and side facades of Senate House into a three-dimensional video screen. I saw this technique employed on the chimneys of Battersea power station last year, and previous to that used on the upper level of the Southbank Centre to promote the Tron Legacy movie that came out in late December 2010 (I captured some still images of that event here). When you watch the video you might be interested to note that the audio track being played alongside the bright Virgin visuals is actually from that movie – take a moment to watch the video because it really is stunning!
