The Stockwell Park ‘Graffiti Gallery’

I needed some fresh air at lunchtime today, so where better to go than the place that Solo told me about last Saturday, the disused basketball courts on the Stockwell Park Estate in south London which he looks after, where local graffiti artists are given free reign to show off their efforts.

I spotted several pieces of work I recognised from last weekend’s bash, and I think it’s great that the local powers that be allow this space to be used for this purpose – if nothing else it brightens up what is a very ordinary estate, the kind you’ll see all over London. I like the fact that nothing’s permanent too – there are telltale signs everywhere that people have painted over previous work and introduced their own. What a fantastic riot of colour and energy!
