MetroMarks on London

I’ve just been alerted to a new website for Londoners, MetroMarks. They’ve been active in Canada and the US for some time but have just launched in a couple of Europe’s capital cities – just under a week ago in fact.

What the MetroMarks site aims to do is bring together all of the useful online bookmarks for a city in one place. On the London site you’ll find tabs dedicated to local information and weather, classifieds, events listings, restaurant listings, government information and even a section for interesting blogs about the city (strangely, I feature in this section). Clicking on the tabs will take you to grids of big, bright colourful buttons that link straight through to the relevant sites. MetroMarks certainly beats the set of bookmarks I have under ‘London’ in my browser, although I do have one or two minor gripes – most of the sites listed under ‘Government’ could have easily been consolidated under the Direct.Gov banner (and that’s where clicking on them will take you anyway) and there’s also a complete lack of links to health information and local health services. That being said, there is a button at the bottom of each set of icons where users can suggest additions, and the team responsible for developing the site seem to be responsive to comments and constructive criticism. it’s also early days for the London site – I’m sure the amount of information will expand rapidly as they develop it and people make contributions. I’ve added it to my bookmarks list – check it out!
