This evening I was invited along to the opening of a new art installation sponsored by Jotta design magazine in the Trafalgar Hotel, just off Trafalgar Square, entitled “Future Form“.
It’s a collaboration between several artists – Swedish illustrator Lina Ekstrand, textile designer Eunsuk Hur, painter Jonathan Ridge and Alex Shepherd, an artist in moving images. I’ve captured some of the pieces in my photographs here, although you won’t find reproductions of the paintings and illustrations which you should probably not be looking at through a lens, and unfortunately I couldn’t find Alex Shepherd’s installation anywhere… perhaps as this was the opening night they had some teething troubles with it! It is on YouTube however and must have been absolutely painstaking in its creation if you read the description up on the right! There were some delicate and ethereal paper mobiles too, which were drifting back and forth over the tables where most people were gathered – I found them quite captivating

The exhibition runs in the hotel until 23 May and although small is perfectly formed and worth viewing if you have modern and eclectic tastes in art. The hotel itself is a bit of an eye-opener too – a really funky space done out in a slick boutique style and right on Trafalgar Square itself. Probably the kind of place I’d stay when visiting if I wasn’t already living here!
