Riverside Repast

Well, yesterday evening I finally had a meal at my friend Rob’s restaurant on Mortlake High St, near Barnes Bridge, The Depot Waterfront Brasserie.

It’s a fantastic venue, really chic inside, very imposing outside and it has tables at one side of the restaurant that almost sit “over” the Thames. You can even see the finishing post for the Oxford-Cambridge boat race from your seat… not sure they’re not already fully booked for that event though!

On to the food, which was really, really good and very nicely presented. I had a lovely parma ham salad to start, scattered liberally with pine nuts, and succulent seared chicken strips on a bed of pui lentils with spinach and a (baked?) new potato side for main course. The desserts looked very tempting, but after the excesses of christmas I just couldn’t face another course unfortunately.

The very welcoming bar was also very well stocked: to be able to walk up and order a Zubrovka with apple juice and have it just appear in your hand says something about their taste in proper vodka for one thing…

I hate to admit it, but I think it’s quite likely that I’ve already had my best restaurant meal of 2008… I really can’t recommend this place enough, its great for a lovely evening out – just remember to book!

More photos of the evening here & here’s the menu that I chose from.
