Bridge To Nowhere

If you get off the Docklands Light Railway at Gallion’s Reach there’s a strange sight looking from the end of the westbound platform. It’s a substantial roadbridge which just ends in thin air. This was to be (and may still turn out to be) a slip-road for the much needed East London River Crossing, which came out of an earlier project called ‘Ringway 2′ which, back in the 80s, was intended to supplement the congested north circular.

The latest reincarnation of this project is now the ‘Thames Gateway Bridge‘, which will carry car lanes, bus lanes, space for trams or the DLR, cycles and so on, but for the time being it’s been put on hold once again.
