Next month MexFest is returning to the streets of London for a four-day celebration of Mexican culture, from 11 to 14 July.
Commencing with a screening of David Riker’s 2012 movie The Girl at Rich Mix on 14 July (the story of a woman who decides to develop a lucrative criminal sideline by smuggling Mexicans across the border into Texas) this year’s MexFest will also feature live music, outdoor film screenings, talks and art installations.
The Girl kicks off a four-day programme of film and live music at Rich Mix, and there will also be a night of entertainment from Grupo Mono Blanco and Gil Cerezo in the unusual surroundings of the Victoria & Albert Museum on 12 July. Outdoor movie screenings will take place at Canary Wharf sponsored by Wahaca, and the Royal Academy of Arts will be hosting a free talk on modern Mexican architecture during the afternoon on 14 July.
Hugo van Belle, the MexFest Founder said this about the 2013 festival:
We are delighted to be the driving force of the Mexican summer in London – engaging both Mexican cultural and creative organizations with a wide ranging British and international audience – and the platform for more commercial and cultural collaboration between UK and Mexico. MexFest promises to kickstart a cultural explosion in iconic London venues.
Also, keep your ears open for a sound installation in Shoreditch created by artist Pablo Delgado over the four days…
You’ll find more details about MexFest over at the official site, and here’s an introductory video to whet your appetite for the Mexican spice that’s coming our way (hopefully bringing the hot weather with it!):
