Opening this week, Canadian comedienne Rebecca Northan’s Blind Date runs at the Charing Cross Theatre until 13 July.
With recent performances in New York and Toronto, Blind Date features Northan’s Parisian character Mimi, who is part clown and part temptress. The story follows her as she is stood up on a date, but what to do? After pondering the problem for a while Mimi turns to the audience for help, and so the show proceeds with a hapless theatre-goer spending the next ninety minutes on stage, with hilarious results!
Northan has spent several years on film and TV in her native Canada (winning two Canadian Comedy Awards, the Montreal Just For Laughs Comedy Award for her improvisation skills and others) and this run of the show has garnered lots of positive comment. The Toronto Star called Blind Date ‘a flight of theatrical fancy that is absolutely magical’, while the New York Times said it was ‘fearless and very funny’.
