The Foragers, who run the Verulam Arms ‘wild food’ pub in St Albans and provide the menu at the Dead Dolls Club’s trendy pop-up venue in Dalston, are mixing it up in medieval style at the beginning of next month with a pop-up night also featuring theatre and live music, ‘The Banquet’.
Taking place at the Church Of Our Most Holy Reedemer in Exmouth Market on Thursday 9 and Friday 10 May, the evening will feature a 14th century menu which includes wild ingredients picked up by the Foragers on their trips out into the woods and hedgerows. Entertainment will come in the form of cabaret from the OneTaste Theatre Collective, who were described as the highlight of last year’s Secret Garden Party’s arts and music festival, and live music will be provided by Perhaps Contraption. Dubbed the ‘twisted brass, art punk marching band’, their third album Listening Bones was released last year – check out the Youtube video at the end of the post for their track Cousin/Grandma, it’s mad!
Here’s the menu – I understand that there won’t be any cutlery on the tables, so you’ll be tucking in with your fingers in appropriate medieval style:
Homemade butter beer
Apple & home cured pig cheek bacon pastries
Hogweed seed spiced cabbage
Ale & hedge garlic root cured trout
Blawmager dumplings
Roast pheasant
Roast venison haunch
Makerouns (medieval pasta bake)
Spiced honey and sweet woodruff parsnips
Roast shallots & wild garlics
Ale fruitcake
Stewed pears
Hippocras
Tickets for this one-off event are priced at £47.50 per person, which you can pick up at the Foragers website – I doubt that you’ll forget the experience in a hurry…
