Beethoven’s Choral Symphony At St Paul’s Cathedral – In Aid Of The Lord Mayor’s Appeal

beethoven ninth symphony st pauls cathedral lord mayors appealOn 23 May a special performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony will take place at St Paul’s Cathedral, in aid of the Lord Mayor’s Appeal. Each year the Lord Mayor of London undertakes a charitable appeal to raise money during his year in office, and this year the theme is The City In Society, reflecting ‘the City of London’s major contribution and wide-ranging commitment to the society it serves in the 21st century’.

Groundbreaking at the time it was written in 1824, the Choral Symphony was the first by a major composer to add voices to this particular musical form. The symphony will be conducted by Howard Williams, with Elizabeth Lleweellyn and Sarah Connolly taking the soprano and mezzo-soprano parts and Andrew Kennedy and Mark Stone as tenor and baritone, alongside the English Chamber Orchestra. The chorus will be made up of the Choir of the 21st Century and choral singers from the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.

Tickets range in price from £10 to £40 –  you’ll find them here on Ticketmaster.
