Light Show – 50 Years Of Illuminating Installations @ Hayward Gallery Until 28 April

light show hayward galleryUntil 28 April, the Hayward Gallery on the Southbank is hosting Light Show, which gathers together the work of twenty two artists from the last fifty years.

Exploring light in all its forms, the installations include environments, free-standing sculptures light projections, including some that are old works which have been recreated for the first time in decades specifically for this show. The arrtists being exhibited at Light Show are David Batchelor, Jim Campbell, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Bill Culbert, Olafur Eliasson, Fischli and Weiss, Dan Flavin, Ceal Floyer, Nancy Holt, Jenny Holzer, Ann Veronica Janssens, Brigitte Kowanz, Anthony McCall, François Morellet, Iván Navarro, Philippe Parreno, Katie Paterson, Conrad Shawcross, James Turrell, Leo Villareal, Doug Wheeler and Cerith Wyn Evans. I’m very much looking forward to seeing Kowanz’s stepped neon tube sculpture that occupies a large section of the exhibition, as well as Shawcross’s wireframe work which bends perception and Villareal’s scintillating columns of light.

Several talks will accompany the show, including a reading of David Gascoyne’s ‘radiophonic  poem’ Night Thoughts on 20 February and Notes From The Universe on 11 March, which will see Marek Kukula, the Royal Observatory’s Public Astronomer, and others taking on the cosmos. You can find details of the special events associated with Light Show on their specially created website.

Tickets are priced at £11 each (£10/£9 concessions) and you’ll find them here online. If you do head along they ask that you use the hashtag #haywardlight if you happen to mention it.

Light Show is curated by Dr Cliff Lauson of the Hayward Gallery.
