Urban Masters – Modern Interpretations By Stik, Banksy, Sweet Toof & Others Until 18 November

urban masters street art exhibition londonWith Hoxton’s White Cube gallery closing very soon, the Evening Standard has surmised that this means the end for the edgy art scene on the fringes of the City of London. I hate to burst their bubble, but they’re actually dead wrong – things are as exciting as ever, and I have lots of evidence to prove it.

Earlier this year the ugly car park on Great Eastern St accommodated the outlandish and outrageous BMW Art Cars (one of which was designed by Andy Warhol) and just two weeks ago the White Canvas Project took over a disused warehouse space a little further down the street to showcase an international line up of challenging street art. Needless to say that the public art spaces at the bottom of the street also continue to see a continually changing canvas of images…

Tomorrow it’s the turn of the Urban Masters exhibition, which for nearly two weeks will be taking over Factory 7 at 13 Hearn St to display ground-breaking street art interpretations of the ‘Old Masters’ – work by local artists Stik and Sweet Toof will be on show and there will also be an opportunity to take in pieces by notable Europeans such as Blek Le Rat and Roa (who had one of his Shoreditch pieces cynically removed by Puma during the Olympics) and even Banksy himself will be getting in on the action.

The Urban Masters exhibition runs from Friday 9 November to Sunday 18 November – go and check it out!
