The sheltered space next the main entrance to the British Council headquarters building just off Trafalgar Square often plays host to art exhibitions – currently on display is a tribute to Brazilian modernist architect Lina Bo Bardi entitled ‘Together‘.
The works contained in the two black corrugated circular structures outside the British Council are by two artists – Madelon Vriesendorp, who has combined folk art from Brazil with her own pieces, which she created while teaching at Solar do Unhao in Salvador, and Tapio Snellman. Snellman has created a film installation which plays suspended on screens between the walls and even projected on the ceiling – it contains snatches of scenes filmed around SESC Pompeia, which is an old factory complex in Sao Paolo converted into a multi-use complex by Lina Bo Bardi in the 1970s.
This celebration of Brazilian culture and art is open from 10am until 6pm Monday to Friday and continues until 30 November.
