China To Hackney Festival – 8 To 12 August

Over the next four days London’s cultural landscape will be taking another turn, as China takes over the Hackney Empire with the ‘China To Hackney Festival‘.

china to hackney festivalSince Dou Dou performed the 2008 Beijing Olympic theme she has become a popstar in China – her performance will mark the first time that she has ever sung outside of mainland China. Tickets for ‘Light Up The World – Dou Dou in Concert’ taking place tonight, are priced at £27.50 and £10.

On Thursday evening the Chinese Youth Carnival will be taking over the Hackney Empire with traditional music, dance, martial arts and drama featuring a cast of over 200 brought from all over China. Tickets for this colourful extravaganza are only £5.

On Saturday 11 August, young opera singer and China’s Cultural Ambassador for 2011, Lv Wei will be performing with the London Philarmonia. Now a world-wide sensation, her most recent concert at the Acrimboldi Theatre in Milan was broadcast across the world. The Philarmonia will be led by Chinese conductor Lu Jia. Tickets are £27.50 and £10.

Closing the China to Hackney Festival on Sunday will be a performance of the ‘Monkey King & Other Tales’. These three traditional Peking Operas will be performed by the Guizhou Peking Opera Theatre, and as well as the title piece the evening will include ‘Farewell My Concubine’ and ‘The Romance On The Rainbow Bridge’. Again, ticket prices for this evening performance are £27.50 and £10.
