‘London Booster’ – Cerny’s Groaning Red Bus At Czech House

Czech artist David Cerny has created an iconic sculpture to mark the Czech Republic’s takeover of the Business Design Centre at the Angel for the duration of the London 2012 Olympic Games – a red-liveried bus that does push-ups, accompanied by audible strains and groans.

You can see ‘London Booster’ in operation on Upper St at the Angel from 9am until 9pm every day during the Olympics. Like Nigeria House (which has taken over the Theatre Royal Stratford East) Czech House at the Business Design Centre will act as a centre for the Czech Olympic Committee and Czech Government during the London 2012 Games. There will be talks, cultural evenings and Olympic events involving the Czech athletes during the competition, although details are very thin on the ground at the moment. Keep an eye on the event website, as I’m sure more will be revealed very soon.

EDIT – Actually it’s not a London bus at all – it would have never seen service on the streets of the capital. Although it looks similar to a Routemaster it’s actually a Lodekka by the Bristol Company,  manufactured in 1957.
