Canal Walk #1 – Regent’s Canal From Camden Town To Kings Cross

This post marks the start of a little project that I’m going to undertake over the next few months, where I will be walking London’s extensive canal network.

I chose a simple route to start with, joining the Regent’s Canal at the bridge next to the TV-AM/MTV building and then walking as far as the area behind Kings Cross station. This particular part of the canal lacks the character it once had, as these days its mostly overlooked by chic apartment blocks. There are one or two interesting things to discover however –  apart from the eggs on the roof of the TV building (which are listed) a little further down under one of the bridges is the Banksy/Robbo ‘dispute wall’ which saw the rival artists repeatedly painting over each other’s work as part of an disagreement that continued for several years (there’s more on this over on the TwistedSifter site).

Down at the Kings Cross end you’ll pass by three interesting spaces, all of which have been covered on the blog in the recent past – Granary Square, St Pancras Gardens and Camley St Natural Park. The next instalment in this series, coming in the next few days, will cover the route from Kings Cross through Hackney all  the way to the Limehouse Basin just off the Thames – I’ll also be talking about the Ragged School Museum at Mile End on this upcoming journey.
