Taking a leaf out of London Is Cool’s book, I took a trip over to the new Granary Square behind Kings Cross station earlier in the week.
The surrounding area is a bit unappealing at the moment as the approach road is lined with hoardings (other new developments are currently only at the ground-breaking stage) but crossing the road bridge over the canal reveals a rather dramatic sight. The canal runs along one side of the square while on the other a complex of Victorian warehouses have been transformed into the new University of the Arts London – Central St Martins complex – one of the main places to study art in the capital. Between them is Granary Square’s piece de resistance – 1080 water jets that follow a complex series of timed patterns and movements, from forming gentle sine waves to leaping 6 feet or more into the air.
My visit also coincided with Central St Martin’s degree show, so I was also able to photograph some of the work that the students have created.
