Small But Perfectly Formed – London’s Pickering Place

Pickering Place is one of London’s smallest squares – it’s possible that it is actually the smallest but I do know of one or two very tight corners in the City of London that would give it a run for it’s money! It’s just off St James St, down an 18th century timbered alleyway at the side of London’s most celebrated wine merchants, Berry Brothers & Rudd.

It’s a rather charming little find – I love the surrounding Georgian buildings and the decidedly lop-sided sundial at its centre. Surprisingly, the square is also one of the few places in London to still be gas-lit at night. There’s  not a great deal to see (the photos below show you the entire extent of the square) but you could fit it in alongside a trip along the Mall as it’s just behind St James Palace. The photo album here also has some photographs from earlier today showing you the spring blooms along the Mall, which are really coming into their own now.
