Wanderlust – Movie Review

With a fairly short list of slightly saucy movies under his belt, director David Wain  returns to the big screen with ‘Wanderlust‘.

Starring Paul Rudd as over-extended husband George and Jennifer Aniston as changeable wife Linda, they leave the hustle and bustle of New York, finally arriving at a commune via an uncomfortable stay at George’s brother’s palatial pad. Thus begins a tale of free love, folk songs, weed and wild times.

The comedy in ‘Wanderlust’ can be a little hit and miss, and the hippy cliches are a touch too heavy, but these issues are adequately balanced out by some deliciously awkward moments that will have you squirming in your seat – I can guarantee that you’ll never look at a bathroom mirror or a bottle of red wine in quite the same way again!

As it only took $12.5m in its initial week (miniscule compared to Jennifer Anniston’s last big outing ‘Horrible Bosses’ in 2011) I doubt it will be gracing the screens for very long, so if you’re in the mood for a gentle and uplifting romantic comedy get yourself to the cinema in the next week or two. My score – three and a half out of five.
