The Fabergé Big Egg Hunt

faberge big egg hunt grenadierFor 40 days from next Tuesday,  21st February 2012, the Fabergé Big Egg Hunt will be taking place in central London, with the aim of raising £2m in aid of the Elephant Family and Action For Children charities, and breaking a couple of Guinness World Records along the way.

Over 200 eggs will be secreted around town, each designed by a leading art, designer, architect or jeweller and, using a map or a smartphone app (no word on what platforms are supported yet), you’ll be led to each egg. As you find them you need to text in the particular SMS keyword found somewhere on the egg, with each of these texts giving you one entry into the prize draw, but you can send a new text for every egg that you find. There’s a grand prize for one person who takes part, but no word yet on what that prize might be, although I’d take a guess that it’s somewhat egg-shaped…

The eggs that you discover along the way will also be going to auction at the end of the 40-day hunt, with the proceeds of the sales going to the chosen charities. The organisers are hoping that, given the numbers of people participating, this will be the world’s biggest easter egg hunt (which will break one world record) and one of the eggs that you ‘ll come across on your journey is also set to become the world’s most expensive chocolate easter egg (breaking another).  However that’s nothing compared to the most expensive egg on the hunt which you’ll find in one of the jewellers – a unique Fabergé emerald and gold pendant, which is not within the budget of any readers I imagine!

Regarding the beneficiaries, the Elephant Family (who did something unique in London a few years ago) works to protect the Asian elephant and its habitat, while Action For Children provides support to abandoned and vulnerable children and young people here at home in the UK. The Fabergé  Big Egg Hunt sounds like a lot of fun, and you’ll be supporting two very good causes.

Looks like fun doesn’t it – I definitely want to find that chocolate egg (I might even make a guess about which shop you’ll find it in… check the ‘Diana map’ maybe?)
