London 2012 ‘Get Ahead Of The Games’ Transport Information

Software and Websites

The ‘Get Ahead Of The Games’ website has just been launched to let residents and visitors to the UK know the potential impact on the public transport network as millions of  people descend on London and other spots across the country for the London 2012 Olympic Games in the summer.

There’s a zoomable map of each area where Games events are taking place and, once you get to the next page, a draggable timeline showing the impact on various stations denoted with different coloured circles. There is also an information panel which sets out what changes have been made to public transport to mitigate any increases in numbers – for Londoners that will mean an earlier start and a later finish to the local rail and tube services across the network, and more rolling stock put to work on the Central, Jubilee and District lines.

Looking at the map for London, Stratford (the station which sits almost on top of the Olympic Park) is only predicted to be ‘busier than usual’ on most days while several of the major interchanges in central London will be ‘exceptionally busy’ for the entire duration of the Olympic Games. What I find a bit odd is that this warning also applies to many of the stations on the Jubilee Line between London Bridge and Canning Town. I’m sure the planners know what they’re doing - clearly Canada Water and Canning Town are much more desirable destinations than you might previously have thought!

Check out the Get Ahead Of The Games website here for more information and updates.
