There’s a new iPhone and iPad app available which allows you to take your own musical tour of London with over 500 spots featured within it; the ‘London Music Mapp‘.
With the London Music Mapp in hand you could find yourself wandering the streets of Camden Town in search of Madness’s musical history, or strolling along Berwick St to look at the small independent record stores which have defined the area for years. There’s a category dedicated to live music venues, including the likes of the classic 100 Club on Oxford St which has been serving up basement jazz since the 1950s, and the hip Ginglick in Shepherds Bush Green which occupies the site of underground ‘public conveniences’ from the Edwardian era. Unfortunately, London has lost a few of its iconic venues over the last few years so you’ll only find places such as the Luminaire in Kilburn and the Astoria on Tottenham Court Road in the historical section… For those who like their sounds in the recorded form, there’s also a section on clubs – Fabric, Pacha and Ministry of Sound all feature here.
Finally, if you’re a musician yourself you’ll be pleased to note that there is also a useful section on musical instrument shops, so if you break a guitar string or mislay your drumsticks you can easily find your way to replacements.
You can download the free London Music Mapp directly from the app-store onto your device. Disappointingly, there’s no sign of an Android version yet but hopefully they’re working on it…
