Two great gigs are lined up for Wednesday evening this week in Camden – Giovanni at Proud Camden, and UP at the Wheelbarrow.
21 year-old Giovanni is a great fresh talent, and has already been involved with Mumford and Sons and Noah and the Whale. She’s that rare combination of songwriter, musician and singer, and has a really unique voice that’s simultaneously full of angst and hesitancy, and raw power. You can see what I mean in this video of ‘Out In Bold’ from her debut EP which is due out early next year – seriously impressive! You can get more information on Wednesday evening’s gig which forms part of Giovanni’s current UK tour, and which also includes sets from Josh Beech & The Johns, Channel Cairo and Pete Hickman & The Divers, on Proud Camden’s Facebook page.
If Giovanni isn’t your style then you could head over to The Wheelbarrow for a set from the seriously catchy pop quartet, UP, who have recently teamed up with the guys behind ‘We Are Scientists’. The video below is from a recent live performance of their number ‘Figured Out’, at Camden’s Electric Ballroom – slick is an understatement when it comes to the way these guys perform. I love the tricky drumming and the 70s funk influences on the keyboard and guitars! Ticket information can be found online here.
