G & J Greenall’s ‘Bloom’ @ London Cocktail Week

Events, Food and Drink

Everyone seems to be at it next week as London’s Cocktail Week takes place. This time it’s G & J Greenall who will be pulling out all the stops with three events taking place at four different venues over the next few days. For the posh crowd, there’ll be tutored tasting by Joanne Moore, G & J Greenall’s master distiller, at the Searcys Club at the top of the Gherkin on Monday evening, where she’ll be setting out what makes their gins, the ‘Original‘, ‘BLOOM‘ and ‘Berkeley Square’ brands so special. Unfortunately this one is for Searcys Club members only, so not for the likes of you and me I imagine.

Things become more accessible and kick into a higher gear on Tuesday, when three events take place throughout the day. As part of Cocktail Week’s ‘Meet The Maker’ seminars, Joanne Moore will be hosting a talk at The House of St Barnabas from 2 to 3pm, giving guests an insight into her role at G & J Greenall, from her beginnings as a Quality Manager to her current role as the world’s only known female master gin distiller, custodian of the distillery brand portfolio and brand developer for new products. Later on you’ll be able to visit Greenall’s stall at the Drinks Jamboree taking place at Shoreditch Town Hall, where guests will be able to sample all of their gins and gain an understanding of the botanicals and work that has gone into their development. From 6 to 8pm, Graphic Bar on Golden Square will also be hosting a BLOOM tutored tasting with Joanne, which will include a look at the raw ingredients themselves, and a chance to sample the exclusive ‘Juniper in BLOOM’ cocktail. If you’ve ever had the urge to taste a juniper or sloe berry, now’s your chance! Finally on Wednesday from 12 lunchtime until 9pm there’ be another opportunity to visit the Drinks Jamboree for some tips on the best ways to mix the spirits for cocktails.

Having taken another trip abroad this past weekend. to Belgrade, I now have a bottle of their national drink, plum brandy, in the cocktail cabinet. The way I’m going there’ll be a full drinks cabinet by the end of the year, so perhaps I should get a bottle of gin too – that Bloom bottle certainly looks very sexy doesn’t it…
