Well in two weeks time you’ll see a distinct change in the quality of the photography you find on my blog (I hope!) as I’ll be buying a Pentax K20D as I think it’s about time my point-and-shoot camera went in the drawer.
I’ve found three really useful resources online that I’ve been reading intently to learn some technique and get some ideas about what my new camera will be capable of. There is the wonderful Digital Photography School, where there is a very active forum and lots and lots of free advice on taking all sorts of different photographs. They also have weekly assignments where you can post your photos to be critiqued and perhaps win prizes. Check the recent winners of their assignments here – I don’t imagine my work is going to be that good any time soon!
Another site that I’ve found is ePhotoZine which, in addition to an active area for photographers to share their work, also has as focus on technical issues and camera equipment. A great find as I’m narrowing down what kinds of things I need to buy now I’m going down the digital SLR route.
Last but not least are the resources available on meetup.com, where I regularly attend the monthly London bloggers group. They also have several local photography forums, such as the London Photographic Meetup Group (wjhich has several thousand members and looks a bit intimidating to be honest) and another one which has caught my eye – the small and intimate Photo School which invites beginners to get together, holds masterclasses and has photography assignments for members. When I have my new camera I get the feeling I’ll be paying them a visit
