Life after Battlestar Galactica = A Long, Long Way From Home

March 26, 2009 By Pete Stean

OK, so we’ve reached the end of BSG, and we’re nearing the end of Season 3 of Heroes, so what’s next?

Well it looks like the creators of Stargate have taken a leaf out of both of these series’ books, as the new ‘Stargate Universe‘, due in the Autumn, seems to be a far cry from the traditional family-oriented sci-fi we’ve seen in Stargate and Star Trek in the past. It appears that there are going to be horror elements and lots of gritty realism in this new series, set on a wandering starship far from our Milky Way galaxy, if the trailer (below) is anything to go by.

Even the cast bears a striking resemblence to BSG’s, including a slightly mad scientist with dubious intent in the form of Dr Nicholas Rush, being played by none other than Robert Carlyle (of ’28 Weeks Later’ and the recent ‘Last Enemy’ miniseries fame) and a blonde who looks suspiciously like Tricia Helfer (No. 6)

The scificool.com site seems to have access to all of the breaking news thus far, so if you’re interested in how things progress up to the launch later this year I’d keep an eye on it. I’ll post more as new things are revealed too…
