From the Sublime to the Ridiculous!

Well at the beginning of this week I’ve been in Cardiff and Newport. Sunday night saw me checking into the Royal Hotel, Cardiff – a really funky little boutique hotel just around the corner from the station and just off the main ‘party’ drag, St Mary St. It was lovely, and really chic – very unlike the cookie cutter corporate hotels I normally stay in. I can’t recommend it enough if you’re there.

Today saw me at the SOCITM Conference 2008, held at Celtic Manor overlooking the M4 near Newport in South Wales. This place is amazing – a Vegas-style hotel stuck in the middle of South Wales! It has a huge atrium many stories high with many of the rooms overlooking it, and the Conference centre is actually built into the side of the mountain, so there are escalators throughout the hotel that descend down many, many levels. Absolutely breathtaking – not that I stayed here though – I doubt I could afford it. It’s even hosting the Ryder Cup in two years time, and I can see why!
