Incarcerated with the ‘MiddleMan’

August 23, 2008 By Pete Stean

While I’ve been at home for the last couple of days I’ve been introduced to a new show that’s a completely tongue-in-cheek mixture of The Avengers, Austin Powers and Buffy – it’s ‘The Middleman‘ from ABC Family (based on the comicbook of the same name)

The show is great fun and includes all the usual sci-fi and horror scenarios, including zombies, vampires, robots and aliens, and you can tell how seriously it takes itself by the episode titles, such as “The Ectoplasmic Panhellenic Investigation, “The Vampiric Puppet Lamentation” and “The Boy Band Superfan Interrogation”. The last of these involves a little girl (the superfan in question) constantly swearing like a trooper throughout the episode – outbursts which are bleeped out and her mouth is covered with a black rectangle (the show isn’t very PC either!). I really like it, although there is a teen storyline throughout involving the Middleman’s assistant which can be a little annoying… but they are aiming for that part of the viewing public I guess. Worth checking out if you have a wicked sense of humour :)
