Today marks the 100th year of the Territorial Army, and I managed to catch the end of the celebrations at the Guildhall. The colourful soldiers from the Honorable Artillery Company were there with their pikestaffs and muskets at the ready, and we also spotted a TA ceremonial mascot (not belonging to the HAC as it happens – in fact, the likelyhood is that he speaks Welsh!) – isn’t he fantastic? If you click on the image you’ll get a larger version where you can see that this little guy has silver-tipped horns
There’s a special website that’s been set up here, providing information on the year of events that have been kicked off today with a special service at St Paul’s and the Guildhall reception. There’s also going to be a national pageant taking place on Sunday 21st of June on Horse Guards Parade. There will then be a march down the Mall, complete with current military hardware, so I might head down and get some shots – should be good.
