In this update I’ll be talking about science fiction. I’m a big fan of this genre and subscribe to a couple of podcasts that focus on my favourite TV shows and movies. The one with the most interesting content that I listen to is Doctor Who Podshock, which is hosted by a mixture of Americans and British presenters. They have occasional interviews with actors, producers and writers involved with the series, and usually have a phone-in section where very knowledgable fans tell anecdotes about the Doctors that they’ve seen at fan conventions, or express their opinions and ideas about old and new stories.
The last few shows have looked at the contribution of the actors who have played the various ‘regenerations’ of the Doctor, and they’re currently up to Tom Baker, the fourth Doctor. I recommend this podcast for any serious Doctor Who fan, but there are two caveats. Unfortunately while they really know their subject, they’re not great on the technical side. Sometimes the quality of the sound is absolutely attrocious, and its invariably far too quiet, so even with the volume on my mp3 player set to maximum, in a noisy environment its difficult to catch what’s being said. They also never seem to update their homepage with information on the latest shows (it currently shows details of #84, recorded in June 2007). However, if you’re a real fan (but not an audio snob as well) I’m sure you’ll get something out of the show, which is made available every week or so…
One last thing, for some reason the feeds on the left hand side of the homepage are in the reverse order to the way you normally see them i.e. the mp3 feed is the one near the bottom, so if you don’t have an iPod, that’s the one you want.
One last, last thing. You do know that Torchwood returns next Wednesday evening on BBC2 at 9pm, right?
